Design directions, prepared for Oak Financial Management, September 2026

Four designs.
Each one earns trust its own way.

Oak Financial Management is a sole-adviser practice in Croydon that has been quietly serving clients across London and the South East since 2010. Its website should feel like the advice: careful, independent, and free of jargon. So before drawing anything, we agreed a brief with substance.

Each direction below starts from a different honest answer to the same question — what should a client feel in the first three seconds? — and is built out as a complete working site, not a mock-up: your logo, your real client testimonials, your FCA credentials, in three pages per design.

[ 01 ] The thinking before the design

What we knew, and what it ruled out

Four facts from the brief shaped every decision that follows. They are why none of these designs look like a financial-services template.

[ 02 ] The four directions

Same content. Four positions.

Each direction is a complete, working homepage plus an About page and a Contact & fees page, built out in full rather than mocked up. Browse all four; they work on your phone too.

01

Dark · Private-client · Considered

The Quiet Practice

The argument: trust is earned through restraint. Deep moss green, cream serif type, an arched portrait and the growth rings of an oak drawn faintly behind the page. Nothing shouts; everything is considered, like a wood-panelled advisory office. Of the four, it is the one that most says we are a private practice, not a product shop — understatement as competence.

Light · Clear · Confident

Plain English

The argument: the jargon-free promise, made visual. Key words are highlighted like a marker pen, every term of art is translated the moment it appears, and the type is big, warm and unhurried. It exists for the client the industry usually talks past: the first-time buyer, the nervous, the plain busy. Of the four, it is the friendliest read — and the one that makes “independent” mean something within five seconds of arriving.

Editorial · Broadsheet · Numerate

The Long View

The argument: evidence over assertion. A broadsheet masthead, a timeline running from 2010 to today, ledger rules and tabular figures throughout. It reads like the money pages of a serious newspaper, because that is exactly the register its clients trust. Of the four, it is the most numerate — the one for the client who reads the financial press and wants a firm that looks like it belongs there.

Warm · Personal · Human

The Local Adviser

The argument: a person, not a corporation. The homepage opens in a real client's own words, photographs sit in stitched frames like a family album, and Barry is never more than a paragraph away. It exists because a sole-adviser firm's greatest asset is the adviser. Of the four, it is the most human — the one that feels like being introduced to Barry by a friend.

Judge them the way your clients will

First three seconds

Open each homepage and trust the instinct before the analysis. Clients decide emotionally, then justify rationally. So should you.

On your phone

Most clients will first meet this site on a phone. Every direction is built mobile-first; check them there too.

Imagine your clients reading it

The testimonials on every page are real. Picture the Wimbledon, Purley and South Croydon clients behind them reading each design.

Nothing is frozen

Colours, type sizes, section order: all tunable after you choose a direction. Pick the argument you want to make, not the details.

Blending is allowed

If two directions both feel right, say so. The bones of any two can be combined — for example, The Long View's ledger with The Quiet Practice's palette.

Then reply

One line back to us with the design number, or the two you'd like blended, and we build the full site on that direction, with your content in the CMS.
